Dr. Pimple Popper Made the Switch to Paid Video and Fans Are Not Pleased

Sandra Lee, aka Dr. Pimple Popper, is currently in hot water with her fans for making the move to paid video. Now, instead of being able to tune in to all of the pimple-popping fun for free, subscribers will have to shell out $2.99 per month in order to watch some of the famed surgeon's content. While she still posts frequent teasers on Instagram, some of Lee's full videos are now only available to her All Access Subscribers.

In the comment section of a recent teaser, fans expressed their frustration with having to pay to see the full duration of their beloved popping videos. One fan wrote, "So no more free videos huh? Nice 😒," while another offered, "So access..pay to see you pop spots...no way...was and am a fan but your milking this now for profit..not gonna follow you now on here anymore...#scottishfan."

What's more, some folks chimed in about the quality of the video. "Not great video, need to be closer pls," wrote one user. "The camera is too far!!!" added another. Additionally, one person said, "If she’s going to charge people to watch the videos she at least needs good video quality."

Other longtime fans of Lee's expressed their unhappiness with the pivot. A user by the name of xxcheryl17xx2019 wrote: "I've been a loyal Dr. Pimple Popper fan on YouTube from the start. Now we hardly get any videos. You're also wanting us to pay for the ones you do make. I understand you want to make money, but you're already rich. Can't the TV show be enough and you still post on YouTube for your followers and fans? I feel it does us a disservice."

Due to the slew of negative feedback she received, Lee posted a YouTube video explaining why she made the switch. In the video, she says that because her gory content gets flagged and removed so often, YouTube restricted ads from running on her content, which in turn costs her business a boatload of revenue because ads are a major way YouTubers make money.

Put simply, by charging for some of her content Lee is earning the money she's no longer receiving from YouTube. "This subscription is really to help cover the cost of everything, really," she explains. And it makes perfect sense, considering how costly video production can be — that, and the fact that she doesn't charge her patients who agree to be filmed. Oh yeah, and she doesn't get paid for her TLC show, either.

What she does earn revenue for, however, is her book, her skin-care line SLMD, and her merchandise. Lee puts a ton of hard work into making these videos for her loyal fans, so it's not at all crazy to ask for some compensation. Here's hoping that people can come to understand that.
