• In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper treats a series of blackheads clustered on top of a patient's nose.
• To remove the blackheads, she uses a comedone extractor, a tool that makes the procedure safer and more effective than squeezing.
• Blackheads form when hair follicles become clogged, and are easy to treat with less invasive, over-the-counter products.

In her latest Instagram clip, Dr. Pimple Popper proves once again why most of us who struggled with acne and blackheads growing up wish we'd had a dermatologist on call.

The clip opens on a mid-procedure close-up of a woman's nose, where Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—begins to make quick work of a large cluster of blackheads using her signature comedone extractor. She also mentions that the woman has previously dealt with millia, which are smaller white cysts that also tend to appear on the nose and face.

While Dr. Lee's extractor looks simple enough to use, however, it's not necessarily recommended that you try and pop blackheads on your own—there's a pretty good chance you could make things worse. Instead, run through this list of safer options first, ranging from salicylic acid washes to nose strips. If those don't work, consider seeing a professional. A trained dermatologist can treat blackheads in a matter of seconds—all in exchange for a few minutes of mild discomfort.

As Dr. Lee puts it in the clip, "The things we do for beauty, 'huh?"

Dr. Pimple Popper returns to TLC for a new season this week, July 11, at 9/8 central.
