Dr. Pimple Popper Extracts a 'Candle Wax' Cyst in New Instagram Video

From Men's Health

• In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper extracts a large cyst, comparing the inside of it to candlewax.
• The cyst is a steatocystoma, which usually result from an overproduction of sebum.
• Sebum is an oily substance that helps keep the skin and hair lubricated.

In a new Instagram video, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—aka, TLC's Dr. Pimple Popper—addresses a small cyst that appears to be located on a woman's back. Unlike most of Dr. Pimple Popper's more instructional videos, there isn't too much context given on this particular procedure. (In fact, patient and doctor spend most of the brief clip building a case for how much the actress Salma Hayek is winning at life which, in fairness, is hard to dispute.)

The clip opens with Dr. Lee snipping away the sac that contains the cyst, a surgical technique that helps lower the odds that the cyst will make a return. Next, she gives her fans what they came for, squeezing the punctured lump to reveal a thick, buttery substance inside. (Dr. Lee poetically compares what's inside to both "fire butter" and "candlewax.")

In the post's caption, Dr. Lee alludes to this being a steatocystoma, which are commonly featured in Dr. Pimple Popper's videos. The cysts are typically benign and harmless, and filled with sebum—and oily, butter-like substance that helps lubricate and protect the skin and hair, according to the National Institute of Health.

As always, it's important not to try and squeeze these yourself if you find one—given time, they'll usually go away on their own. If they don't, better to let a professional do the squeezing for you.
