Dr. Martens Unveils Keith Haring Collection

Dr. Martens and the Keith Haring Foundation have teamed up for a collection of shoes that feature the late New York artist’s signature scribbles.

The spring ’21 collection will be available in select stores and online at Drmartens.com starting Jan. 22. The exclusive release features the brand’s iconic 1460 boot and two pairs of its 1461 oxford style decked out in the social activist’s art. The collection includes shoes available in adult and children’s sizes. The collaboration’s adult line will retail from $130 to $160 and $65-$90 for kids.

“The New York-based artist’s colourful, cartoonish graphics were deep-rooted in social activism,” Dr. Martens wrote in a statement about their latest collaboration with the late artist’s estate. “His publicly-minded pieces questioned authority whilst being accessible and upbeat. There was always more than met the eye. And there still is.”

The partnership marks the first collab between the British shoe brand and the Keith Haring Foundation.

Although Haring first gained recognition in the 1980s for his cartoonish figures seen throughout downtown Manhattan, his illustrations and legacy have continued to live on well into the 21st century. Within the past decade a number of collaborations, including capsule collections released by both footwear and fashion brands have popped up featuring the artist’s playful work.

For the exclusive collection, Dr. Martens’ original smooth leather silhouettes feature Haring’s instantly recognizable illustrations. The shoes from the collection are also highlighted by two distinct character lace charms.

One of the most memorable motifs of the artist included in the new collab with the British footwear brand is the “radiant baby,” noted Art News, who also reported on the release today.

“Among his most iconic figures is the “radiant baby,” featuring a simple outline of a human on all fours intended to symbolize innocence, notes the news outlet.”

This summer, Dr. Martens unveiled an exclusive collaboration with the Basquiat estate. The Jean-Michel Basquiat-themed collection has since sold out, giving us no doubt that the Keith Haring collection will also go fast.
