Dr Irwin Smigel, Father of Aesthetic Dentistry, Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Dr. Irwin Smigel, celebrated aesthetic dentist and founder of Supersmile.

Celebrated internationally as the “Father of Aesthetic Dentistry,” Dr. Smigel was one of the most prominent cosmetic dentists in the country, as well as the founder of The American Society of Dental Aesthetics and diplomat of the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry. He was a pioneer in the field of cosmetic dentistry and remained at the forefront of many of the techniques and technologies of modern dentistry, such as tooth bonding, laminate veneers and whitening. So influential is his work, that the New York University School of Dentistry named its lifetime achievement award for cosmetic dentistry the “Irwin Smigel Prize.” In 2009, Dr. Smigel was recognized by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Dentistry with a permanent installation called "The Smile Experience," which pays homage to his life’s work. He is the only dentist to hold this honor.

Dr. Smigel was responsible for many of the world’s most beautiful smiles from Elizabeth Taylor to Jimmy Fallon and he has bettered the smiles of millions more through Supersmile, an industry-leading line of oral care products. We feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Dr. Smigel and will miss him very much.
