Downtown GR mini-golf bar set to open by ArtPrize

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Renovations are underway as crews work to turn a downtown Grand Rapids space into an indoor mini-golf course with a bar.

Chicago-based Big Mini Putt Club announced in December it would be opening a location at 70 Ionia Ave. SW near Oakes Street. The 8,000-square-foot space will have a spacious bar, room for more than 250 people and a nine-hole mini golf course.

In a meeting on April 10, the Downtown Development Authority approved a request for a $49,000 Retail Innovation Grant. During the meeting, a Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. staff member told the board the mini-golf course is expected to open in time for ArtPrize.

He said Big Mini Putt Club, which is expected to create 15 to 20 full- and part-time jobs, has signed a 10-year lease in the space, which used to house design hub GRid 70.

The board also approved a request for a liquor license. The liquor license request will next go before the Grand Rapids City Commission.
