Move over, Lady Mary.
Your sister Lady Edith aka actress Laura Carmichael just showed off her royally fashionable side at the Downton Abbey NYC movie premiere on Monday night and we are Here. For. It.
The 33-year-old actress, who is currently dating Downton Abbey co-star Michael Fox (who plays footman Andy Parker), wore a black strapless Oscar de la Renta gown with sequin bodice detail and side train, and looked like a far cry from her conservative on-screen counterpart.
Real-life royalty Meghan Markle is a fan of Oscar de la Renta as well, and the royal family does pay a visit to Downton in the new movie (by way of new characters King George V and his wife Queen Mary). We wonder if this tidbit factored into Carmichael's decision at all...
The actress spoke exclusively to PureWow on the red carpet, and revealed the biggest difference between starring in the Masterpiece TV show and the big-screen film.
"You have a bit more time," Carmichael said. "We're playing these guys we know so well, but everything around you—the camerawork and the costumes and everything about [the movie]—has a bit more space, so we have these incredible overhead helicopter shots of the castle, and soooo many beautiful costumes."
She also revealed her favorite aspect of Lady Edith's character.
"I love her grit," the Downton star said. "She sorta has had a really hard time, and instead of letting that defeat her, she dug deep and that's led her in a really interesting direction."
Oooh, does this mean Lady Edith forges her own path in the new movie? Plus loads of gorgeous costumes? And helicopter shots?!
The Downton Abbey movie hits theaters on September 20. (And you can bet your bottom Sterling we've already bought our tix.)
