Downton Abbey Creator Julian Fellowes Has a New Show Coming to Netflix on March 20th

If you loved Downton Abbey, you're likely already looking forward to the historical drama Belgravia debuting this April, based on the eponymous novel by Julian Fellowes. In addition to this, Fellowes' fans can also look forward to The Gilded Age, a series that centers around New York City in the 1880s, which is scheduled to start filming in the coming weeks

Even sooner than both of these hotly anticipated shows can we anticipate the release of The English Game, written and produced by Fellowes and landing on Netflix this spring. According to Netflix, the new series is a "six-part drama {that} charts the origins of football and how those involved in its creation reached across the class divide to establish the game as the world's most popular sport." The series stars Edward Holcroft (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Kevin Guthrie (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Dunkirk, Sunshine on Leith, The Terror), Charlotte Hope (The Spanish Princess, Les Misérables, Game of Thrones), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Watership Down), among other notable actors and is directed by Birgitte Stærmose (The Spanish Princess, Darling) and Tim Fywell (Happy Valley, Grantchester ) and produced by Rhonda Smith (Fresh Meat, Traitors). Whether you're a soccer fan or not, it's safe to say this series will have romance, nail-biting drama, work scandals, and something for everyone. Believe it or not, the series is based on true events that transpired in the 19th century.

Who's excited to stream The English Game? We're counting down the days, but, we must confess, still remain in a state of Downton Abbey withdrawal. It's a good thing that it's recently been announced the hit movie is getting a sequel (phew!)—though the sequel doesn't have a production start date yet, we're hoping this new Netflix series will tide us over for the time being.
