  • Dove Cameron recently shared a couple of braless selfies to Instagram.

  • The post received a ton of comments from people trying to body-shame her.

  • Dove's fans flooded the comments with messages about how inspiring she is.

Dove Cameron has been super busy lately. Descendants 3 recently premiered, she was Seventeen's first digital cover star and she's getting ready to release some new music in September. But that didn't stop her from going on Instagram to share an empowering message about women's bodies. Though the message was written to inspire, her comments were flooded with trolls calling her recent photo inappropriate. Dove posted a selfie to Instagram, where she's wearing a white top, but clearly braless. The photo's caption included a message about embracing feminism. "Our girls deserve better. The time to introduce feminism and woman-centered spirituality to ALL children is now," Dove wrote in part of her Instagram note.

She also posted a second braless selfie, where she quotes author Elizabeth Eller, who wrote the book Singing Woman: Voices of the Sacred Feminine. “this is the age of the ascendant Feminine Principle. In such times as these, women are able to look at themselves with new concepts of value and brilliance. However you inhabit and express being Woman, embrace yourself in that way today!” the caption said.

But not everyone took to Dove's inspiring message. Some accused Dove of behavior that's unbecoming of a Disney star with fans who are kids. "keep that behind closed doors. I know I'm only 12, but think about your kid fans," one person wrote.

"I used to stanned [sic] up for you but after you showing this, made me mad at myself for not listening to my mother's opinion about you :)," wrote another person.

But Cameron responded to the body-shamers, making the point that her braless photo is only a big deal because society sexualizes women's bodies.

“I agree with you in the sense that it is not that deep or groundbreaking whatsoever,” Cameron said, responding to a critic. “But it’s only a big deal because this society is so beyond backwards that they have demonized basic anatomy and are very ! up ! in arms ! about female bodily freedom.”

Cameron also had backup from a ton of fans applauding Dove for being real. One of those comments came from Lili Reinhart's mom, who reposted Dove's selfie to her own Instagram feed.

"So Dove showed that she had nipples today. Did people think she didn’t have any? The only thing that bothers me about this post is the women that are leaving comments about how horrible this picture is. Mass shootings are horrible. These are just boobs," she wrote.

Even her fans on Twitter chimed in, one fan calling her a role model.

The lesson here is that women can choose to do whatever they want with their bodies and Dove isn't holding back.
