Dove Cameron Said "Powerpuff Girls" Leak Isn't Why It's Being Reshot

Last month, we learned that the pilot for The CW’s live-action adaptation of The Powerpuff Girls – led by Dove CameronYana Perrault, and Chloe Bennet – was being completely reworked. Now, Dove is revealing exactly why.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on June 8, Dove, who is set to play Bubbles on the show, admitted that it wasn’t “because the script leaked” but because they just had to “get it right.” The actor and singer revealed that the pilot is still being reworked so she couldn’t get into specifics but the team was aiming to give the series a “slightly different approach” with the rewrite.

"It's a really big piece of IP, and it's tonally very specific. Like getting it right, making everybody happy, and also making sure that it translates. It's so specific," Dove told ET. "To modernize it and to make it fit like, a bunch of different things that don't normally go together, it's just kind of like a puzzle piece. So we're removing some elements and we're replacing others. I think the script is going to get another whack, and it's just going to be a slightly different approach but everything else is going to stay the same."

You might think the actors themselves would feel discouraged having to reshoot the project but, on the contrary, Dove is elated to have the opportunity. "I'm actually very excited at the thought of [the rewrite,]” she mentioned. “I was texting the girls and we're like, 'Oh. Well, now we know what we're doing. What an amazing thing. You never get to do that as an actor, go back and be like, 'What would I have done differently?'" She also added she has “never reshot a pilot before” and that she’s had “so much fun” shooting with the rest of the cast.

All in all, and though it’s not been picked to series just yet, Dove is just as excited about the project as she was back in 2013 when she manifested it, and when her role was first announced – if not more. "It's just exactly what I would want it to be, honestly. I cannot say enough good things about the show and the character. I'm very, very excited. I'm very excited to have everybody see how it's [coming] together. I mean, what is more fun than flying around Townsville and having it look like Townsville and fighting... I can't say what we're fighting, but what's more fun than that? That's the coolest job ever."
