Dove Cameron Just Went Back to Blonde

After years of black hair, she's back to her signature look.

When we first met our fall cover star, Dove Cameron, on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddy, her blonde hair was her signature. Both the sisters that she played in the hit show sported bright honey-blonde hair from start to finish. However, after her Disney era came to a close, the star switched gears, ditching her bubbly image for an edgier deep brunette that has been her signature shade ever since.

Though deep espresso has been her go-to for a while now, she's still tried out other colors like jet black, and even helped play a part in making the cherry cola hair trend a thing with her deep red color. Now, though, she seems to be feeling a bit nostalgic for her OG blonde shade.

On the star’s 28th birthday, she posted an Instagram carousel ringing in her new year, which came with a big change. Gone are the days of her dark hair, and in are the days of embracing her roots—seeing as the post showed off her massive back tattoo as well as a photo of little baby Dove with her natural blonde hair.

However, the singer's new hair wasn’t the exact shade of blonde she rose to fame with. Instead of root-to-end honey hues, this look had darker roots and icier highlights.

Starting at the top of her new look, the roots of her hair were an ambery brown—not quite brunette and not quite blonde, somewhere in the middle. Her hair naturally progressed in an ombré style to a honey-leaning blonde that reached the ends of her hair. The finishing touch of the look was some icy blonde highlights which were evenly placed throughout the style, focused more on the middle-ends and outer layer.

Because it was her birthday, Cameron fittingly debuted the shade in her birthday suit—wearing nothing but makeup, a manicure, and her many tattoos for the photoshoot.

The manicure was as sculptural and artistic as we would expect from the star. Each of her fingers matched with a medium length and almond shape and would have been genuinely see-through if it wasn’t for the layers of texture creating a frozen ice-like appearance. On top of the clear beds were 3D ridges and peaks in various forms, creating the icy effect.

Cameron’s last detail of the shoot was her simple-yet-stunning makeup. Her skin was hydrated yet matte, with a light flush of blush on her cheeks. Dove’s eyes had a light brown shade on the lids, and big, fluttering lashes.
