It's common knowledge that actor Dougray Scott was signed on to play Wolverine in the X-Men movies before Hugh Jackman took over and absolutely made the role his own.
Scott was filming Mission: Impossible II, which infamously ran way over time and budget, and Fox couldn't continue to wait for the actor before beginning production.
But, in an interview with The Telegraph, the actor says that he blames M:I leading man Tom Cruise for keeping him from playing the clawed mutant.
"Tom Cruise didn't let me do it," he said. "We were doing Mission: Impossible and he was like, 'You've got to stay and finish the film' and I said I will, but I'll go and do that as well. For whatever reason he said I couldn't."
"He was a very powerful guy. Other people were doing everything to make it work."
Still, he doesn't bear any ill will against Jackman, stating that: "I love what Hugh did with (the Wolverine character). He's a lovely guy."
Interestingly, X-Men wasn't the only major movie that was affected by Mission: Impossible's lengthy filming. In fact, it might be one of the most important movies of the century so far.
