Do's and dont's for your postponed prom

KRISTIN KOCH: Don't dwell on what the night could have been. I know it's not what you wanted. And in many ways, it might feel like you're getting robbed of this important rite of passage. But you can still have prom, and it still can be memorable. In fact, I think your prom memories are going to be the most special because you found ways, creative ways to have prom still amid a global pandemic.

Do get dressed up. You have that dress, you have that tux maybe that you've been dying to wear. Wear it. It's like a test run for the real prom when it happens in real life. And in the meantime, you shouldn't let that dress languish in the back of your closet teasing you about the prom that could have happened.

Don't just take selfies. I know it's not the same. Maybe you're just going to your couch to do a virtual prom. You're going to want to have those prom pictures, trust me. In 10 years, you're going to be really glad you did this. Ask your parents or your sister to go outside with you. Stage a photoshoot. Take as many as you want.

Do practice your dance moves. I promise there's going to be a day where we all can dance together in real life.
