"I Don't Want To Hear That If I Like To Ski..."- News Anchor Reacts To El Niño Forecast

The warm waters of the Pacific Ocean are set and El Niño is here to "dominate" Winter '23-'24, according to the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

El Niño winters of the past have seen a variety of weather patterns, but most models suggest that the Pacific Northwest can expect warmer-than-average temps this winter.

KING 5 Seattle covered NOAA's '23/'24 Winter Outlook on a recent broadcast. Anchor Steve Soliz said what was on every skier's mind: "I don't want to hear that if I like to ski." See the video below.

KING 5 Seattle: "El Niño is a climate pattern associated with warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. It generally leads to higher chances of warmer temperatures and drier conditions in the Pacific Northwest.

In western Washington, NOAA forecasted a high probability of above-normal temperatures and equal chances of below, near or above-normal precipitation. Eastern Washington is slightly more likely to have below-normal precipitation.
"

Despite a storm currently barreling through the region that's expected to drop more than a foot of snow in some areas, the El Niño forecasts appear quite bleak for our friends in the PNW.

Above-average temps seem likely, and there's a chance for below-average snowfall, according to NOAA. These aren't a recipe for an incredible season, but don't get too down in the dumps just yet.

As the meteorologist mentioned in the video above, NOAA predicted a "bone dry" winter for much of California last year. That prediction clearly didn't pan out.

The most important question is, how will the coming season actually shake out?
