I don't know about you, but whenever I want to switch up the lewk of my room, my bedding is the first thing to get the boot. It's the focal point of the bedroom, after all, and it's where I spend quite a bit of my time, so it can get tired, quick.
Now, if you haven't bought new covers in a while, you may not remember exactly how overwhelming the process can be. First off, you've got to choose between a quilt (a thick 'n' warm bed covering with three layers stitched together) or a coverlet (a lighter, breezier bed covering made with a single piece of fabric). Then, you've got a variety of styles and fabric types to mull over—and there are a lot on the market these days. Honestly, it can be hard to know where to start. Stress!!!
But buying new bedding should be exciting (I mean, what's more thrilling than the prospect of being cozy in bed?), so I took it upon myself to do the grunt work for you. Scroll down and you'll find my picks for the 21 best quilts and coverlets you can cop right this very second.
Whether you're looking for something cooling for those muggy summer nights or an option that'll make you feel like you're snoozing in a marshmallow, I've rounded up the best of the best for you to shop. Pinky promise there's something on this list for you, no matter your sleepytime preferences.
Organic Cloud Cotton Quilt
This oh-so-soft quilt will have you falling asleep literally the minute you hit the bed. It's super light, made with Turkish organic cotton, but still able to keep you warm through every season. Best of all, it's designed to be oversized, so you won't end up fighting with your partner over the covers every night (hog away!).
THE REVIEW: "I’ve gone through a lot of different bedding over the years and this is by far my favorite. It’s super light and airy but is able to keep me warm through the night. Easy to clean and doesn’t hold foul odors like other comforters. Overall extremely happy with my purchase!"

Who says you need to splurge to get good bedding? Not me! You can snag this lightweight, durable coverlet in a subtle chevron print for just under $50. Made with a cooling material, it won't leave you sweating or thrashing in the warmer months, and it comes in an array of colors, so you'll be sure to find one that fits your bedroom aesthetic.
THE REVIEW: "We had to find a coverlet that looked nice on the bed and our cats wouldn't chew (like our blankets). This was a perfect solution, as it drapes over the bed edges and fits inside our King bed frame. It's thin-ish and that's what we wanted—not too bulky to put over our blankets. It isn't too heavy and adds warmth on cold nights. We love it, especially for the price."

Organic Natural Quilted Linen Coverlet
The dog days of summer always come back around, amirite?! If you're looking for a lightweight option for those sweaty nights, look no further. The linen used for this coverlet is super breathable, and you get the option to choose what type of filling you prefer—cotton fill only, extra cotton, or extra wool—depending on how hot you run.
THE REVIEW: "Love the weight, size, and craftsmanship of this coverlet. It is substantial and heavy without being hot. I think part of the weight comes from it being a bit generous in size, which is absolutely wonderful. I don’t worry about my cover-hogging husband pulling it off of me. It looks neat but still casual and relaxed, which is what I was going for overall."

Reversible Quilt
Sometimes I love color, sometimes I don't wanna see anything other than neutrals. If you're like me and change your mind often (no judgment, obv), then a reversible design like this one should probably be in your future. It's great if you want the best of both worlds, but don't have the space to store multiple bedspreads.
THE REVIEW: "This quilt is the coziest thing I’ve ever owned. It has totally transformed our bedroom and makes me look forward to getting in bed. What to consider when looking for a quilt or coverlet
If you truly want to get your best night's sleep, you can't just bite the bullet on the first bedspread you lay eyes on—even if it's really, really cute. There are a few things you should do first...
Decide on what material will work for you.
Cotton and polyester are the most common materials found in quilts and coverlets, so expect to come across them quite a bit as you're shopping. Just FYI, cotton is a more natural option that can be manipulated into different softness levels, whereas polyester is a little less lush but definitely more wallet-friendly.
If you prefer something buttery smooth to the touch, then materials like silk or sateen may be the way to go. If want breathability and cooling abilities, on the other hand, then Tencel and bamboo will be your best friend.
Be sure to also consider the type of lifestyle you hold. If you're on the go a lot or have pets and/or kids, a quilt made from a material that can't be thrown into the washing machine may not be the right fit for you.
Determine the best loft.
While some may love feeling like they're sleeping under a cloud, others might like the extra security of being tucked under a heavy blanket. If you know which one you prefer, then it's always a good idea to take a look at not only the type of filling (or batting) used in your bed covering, but also the amount of filling. The amount will dictate the overall "loft," which indicates how thick a quilt is. Be sure to do your research for maximum snuggliness!
Pick the level of warmth you need.
A lot of factors will go into how warm you want your bedspread to keep you—things like climate, season, and whether you tend to run hot or cold. Think about your lifestyle and take these key points into the shopping process. That way you can easily eliminate what won't work, and decide what materials you should be shopping.
How we chose the best quilts and coverlets
As you probably know, Cosmo's lifestyle team spends all day, every day scouring the internet, testing products, and reading reviews so we can bring you the type of high-quality content we'd want for ourselves (and our standards are preeeetty darn high, TBH).
It's also really important to us that each of our shopping articles adheres to the 15 Percent Pledge, and we try to make sure the products we feature are good for both you and our planet. If we wouldn't buy something for ourselves, we sure as heck won't recommend it to you—and we're always gonna keep it really, really real. Pinky swear.
