Don't Miss Christina Aguilera's Duochrome Eye Shadow at the 2019 American Music Awards

It's been two years since Christina Aguilera graced the American Music Awards' red carpet, and well, it was seriously worth the wait. The singer stunned in a white embellished long-sleeve Jean Paul Gaultier gown with an attached hood and major shoulders. Because her wardrobe was so statement-making, she and makeup artist Etienne Ortega went for a soft glam for the first of two looks of the evening. Although the makeup is laid-back compared to many attendees, for Aguilera, it's totally different from the no makeup-makeup she's worn to past award shows. It's actually more makeup than she's worn lately, while still letting the dress sing.

"The last two times she's done the AMAs, she's been very bare. She's been doing bare for a while," Ortega tells Allure during the show, while he was planning the glam for her performance. "What she's wearing is such a statement piece, she wanted to keep the glam simple and let the dress speak for itself. She wanted the makeup natural but our kind of natural."

Their kind of natural still includes a "strong lash, beautiful buttery skin, and a really pretty peachy lip." He and the rest of Aguilera's team, including wardrobe stylists, decide on the look and Aguilera signs off on it.

"She knows what she likes and she definitely knows what she doesn't like. If we have any ideas she's not into, she'll let us know right away," he says.

Ortega used a few products from Westmore Beauty because he's "been obsessed with the body makeup for years." He gave the singer dark, full lashes with Westmore Beauty Bold & Beautiful Mascara ($27 at Westmore Beauty). He sculpted her brows with the brand's Lasting Effects On-the-Go Brow Gel ($23 at Westmore Beauty). "I'm very into brows these days," he adds.

I'm sorry to say, her eye shadow might be a little hard to recreate at home. The cool duochrome shade is a loose pigment Ortega has had around his glam room for years. "It has a green tone but it's kind of 3-D between emerald green and brown," he says. The green shift makes Aguilera's eyes look even more blue. Her peach-nude lip is a Make Up Forever liner and Nars lipstick from a palette Ortega loves.

One thing is for sure, Xtina is back and more "Beautiful" than ever.
