The US President replaced all of the furniture Melania Trump chose for the White House, a new report claims.

A tell-all profile on the First Lady, published by the New York Times, reveals that Donald Trump overruled his wife's minimalist taste when it came to decorating their home.

The former model reportedly prefers "clean, modern lines" and chose furniture for the residence before she joined her husband in the White House.

Yet while she stayed in New York for the first few months of her husband's presidency to enable their son Barron to stay finish the school year, the 72-year-old replaced her choices with pieces in keeping with the "gilded, triumphal style of Louis XIV".

According to The New York Times: "One of two people familiar with the episode cited it as an example of Mr. Trump's tendency not to relent on even the smallest requests from his wife".

In response to the claims, the First Lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, promptly denied the rumours insisting that "they both chose the décor".

Back in August 2017, the US President was heavily criticised for the lack of time he spent at the 217-year-old residence. When pushed for a reason, he reportedly referred to the White House as "a dump".

Within months, it was reported that the President spent $3.4 million on renovating the recently refurbished West Wing - which included new wallpaper after the previous coverings were allegedly left "very damaged" by the Obamas.

Yet despite claims that he replaced the First Lady's Scandi-cool aesthetic with an ornate style reminiscent of the presidential couple's former Trump Tower penthouse suite, Melania remains the "strongest voice" in the family.

Thomas J. Barrack Jr. revealed: "He listens to her more intently than anyone and respects her advice and counsel not only because she is his wife, but because her loyalty, grace, trust, elegance under fire, intellect and instincts are time tested and proven."
