I Don’t Know If I’ll Ever Recover from Watching Jennifer Lopez’s VMAs Performance

Are you sitting down? Sit down. Jennifer Lopez just performed a 10-minute long medley of all of your favorite songs at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards, including: “Waiting for Tonight," "On the Floor," "Dance Again," "Ain't Yo Mama," "El Anillo," Love Don't Cost a Thing"-COMPLETE WITH THE DANCE BREAK, YOU KNOW THE ONE-"Get Right," "Jenny from the Block," and "I'm Real."

There were booty pops, a gold body suit made by actual angels (probably) and a matching sweatsuit (with matching glittery gold Tims), A-Rod cheesing so hard my heart grew a couple sizes like the Grinch, cameos from DJ Khaled and Ja Rule, a white fur coat costume change, and the dancing, so much dancing.

It was J.Lo’s first VMA performance since 2001 and she was at Radio City Music Hall tonight to pick up the biggest award of the night: the 2018 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

During her acceptance speech following the performance, Lopez described her journey of "dreaming my wildest dreams and kind of watching them come true." She also thanked her twins, Maximilian and Emme, for their "unconditional love" saying, "I stand here stronger and better than ever," as well as her boyfriend A-Rod who she called her "twin soul." "Life is sweeter and better with you in it," she told him. Same.

Lopez joins a baller club of Vanguard winners that includes Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Madonna. Did I mention she was also up for two other awards for her bop “Dinero”? Let’s watch “Dinero” again.

Some quick trivia while you peel yourself off the floor: Lopez has sold over 80 million records worldwide and 40 million albums, per MTV. And her films have grossed over $2.9 billion. She’s got a production company (Nuyorican Productions). A film due out this fall. And earlier this month it was announced that she’s been cast in Lorene Scafaria's Hustlers, a film is inspired by a New York Magazine article about a crew of strippers who scammed the club’s Wall Street clientele. She plays the ringleader, obvs.

Oh, and she personally donated $1 million to humanitarian aid for Puerto Rico post-hurricane Maria and co-organized a star studded telethon that raised over $35 million.

She also showed up to tonight’s awards looking like this.

Earlier this month in a Facebook Live interview with MTV’s Sway Calloway, an emotional Lopez reacted to the news that she is the first Latinx artist to take home the award:

“That’s always an amazing thing because you want everybody to know that they have a fair shot at anything in this life and if I could be the first to do anything that’s…it’s not about me. It’s about everybody else.”

In DJ Khaled's words:

"BLESS UP THE QUEEN.

DON'T PLAY YOURSELF.

ANOTHER ONE."
