I Don’t Know If I’ll Ever Recover From Watching Missy Elliott’s VMAs Performance

• Missy Elliott just took the VMAs stage for the first time in 16 years with a medley of her greatest hits.

• She brought the house down and also took home the 2019 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, becoming the first female rapper to be honored with it.

What can you even possibly do to honor a great like Missy Elliott? If you're the VMAs, you give her the biggest award you have (the Vanguard Award), you dedicate a Museum of Missy in her honor, and then you let her take the stage and do whatever TF she wants. Smart move!

Missy Elliott lit a spark under this year's MTV Video Music Awards with one hell of a performance that will make you wonder why she didn't get the evening's biggest award even sooner. In a word, it was incredible. In a lyric, it was a "planet rocker, show stopper." In an emoji, it was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.

Okay, okay, you get the point. Missy Elliott's VMAs performance was so striking and reminded me of the 500 other times Missy Elliott has given a spectacular performance in her career. If you need me, I'll be busy reliving the magic by rewatching video clips of it from now until ∞.

Obviously, I wasn't alone in feeling this way. Twitter users also couldn't get enough of it.
