Here's everything you need to know about HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot.
When will the Gossip Girl reboot start filming?
Good news, GG fans! The Gossip Girl reboot is finally set to begin production in October in NYC. Series creator, Joshua Safran, did a special Twitter Ask Me Anything in honor of the big news and noted that the show isn't really a reboot, but an extension of the original show.
"I really wanted this to feel like an extension and in no way a reboot. So it's an evolution of the story, not a retread," Joshua revealed on Twitter. "That said, there are echoes. Constance and St. Judes are still Constance and St. Judes, after all."
Hopefully, this means we'll see plenty of our old faves back again in NYC for some more crazy fun.
When will the Gossip Girl reboot be released?
Although some fans were probably expecting the show to be released when HBO Max launches on Mya 27, 2020, HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly confirmed that the show won't be coming to the service until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll," he told Vulture. "Things that would have been really meaningful and high profile have gotten pushed back."
Who is starring in the Gossip Girl reboot?
The Gossip Girl reboot is filled with a nice mix of new and familiar faces. Descendants star Thomas Doherty, Code Black actress Emily Alyn Lind, and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists' Eli Brown have all joined the cast along with some brand new stars that you'll definitely be obsessed with.
Will any of our favorite characters return?
Never say never! While none of the original cast members have been confirmed to come back, since the show takes place five years after the finale, there's still a chance for them to pop up every now and again.
"Well, we talk about what happened to Dan [Humphrey], so I might have to text Penn [Badgley] and see if he's really available," producer Joshua Safran said. "Penn also works constantly, but we'll see if we can rope him in there. That would be great. I would love for everyone to come back if they wanted to. The universe still exists. The characters talk about Serena, Blair, Chuck, Dan."
"They are a part of the world. The characters talk about them and that they do exist. So, yeah, I would love to have them come back. The show jumped five years in the future when it ended and we are past that five years now, so it's whole new things that they could be doing."
