This Domino’s Pizza Dupe Is Helping Women Over Age 50 Lose Weight Fast

Crustless pizza recipes have a zillion hits on the social media, because they’re quick, easy and “so delicious,” say bloggers like Carman Wilken, aka WhatsCookinMama. But can you actually lose weight eating oversized, supremely cheesy, pepperoni-topped skillets that taste like your favorite Domino’s order? “It’s already happening for a whole lot of women,” says Amanda Rose, PhD, 55, who lost 140 pounds herself and is now helping other folks get lean and healthy. Her pizza-skillet devotees include Michele Brooks, 60, who has traded her size 24s for sizes 6s, and Camie Crisp, 70, who shed 20 pounds in 30 days. Both ladies also report better blood work, energy, sleep and more. Keep reading for their inspiring stories — and to find out how you can eat pizza and lose weight.

Using a Domino’s dupe to burn lots of fat

Amanda, Michele, Camie and thousands of others credit their success to a strategy you’ll find at EatLikeABear.com. The gist: Dieters have just one huge meal a day and then “hibernate” the rest of the time, allowing their bodies to live off stored fat. It’s a trick Amanda, a social scientist from California’s bear country, discovered on the internet and adapted to suit busy women. To maximize fat loss and hunger control, “Bears” stick to low-carb fare, like the pizza skillet in this tutorial (full recipe below).

Does one meal a day (or OMAD for short) really work? “It’s one of the most effective versions of intermittent fasting,” confirms popular YouTube creator Eric Berg, DC, author of Easy Keto and Intermittent Fasting. He notes that low-carb eating helps keep blood sugar so low, it prompts our bodies to run on ketones, a fuel made from fat. On top of that, he says, “by eating less often, you trigger biochemical changes that help metabolism and all body systems work better.”

When you eat OMAD-style, the day’s single meal can easily top 1,200 calories. Does that really work better than eating the same calories spread out over smaller sittings? Yes it does, say University of Amsterdam scientists…

Get these benefits from ‘OMAD’

Recently, the Dutch team had a group of test subjects consume the exact same calories each day, either as a single meal or as three meals. During stretches when subjects ate one meal a day, they lost a whopping seven times more fat than when they consumed the exact same calories as three meals a day. Here’s why:

Burn gets boosted

“Cutting carbs lowers blood sugar, which in turn lowers levels of insulin, a hormone that locks up your ability to burn fat,” says Dr. Berg. “What a lot of people don’t realize is that every time you eat anything, carbs or not, you’re going to create a spike of insulin.” Every spike makes it harder to burn stored fat. Insulin spikes also drive hunger. Even if you’re already keto, “eating less often means less insulin, less hunger and greater weight loss.”

Cells get renewed

Going longer periods without eating activates autophagy, a metabolic state “where your body says, ‘There’s no food coming in, so I’m going use all the junk floating around,’” says Dr. Berg. Everything from pathogens and microbes to damaged protein and entire malfunctioning cells are burned as fuel. “It’s an ingenious survival mechanism. Cells are cleaned out or regenerated, so they start acting more like they did when you were 18 instead of 58 or 68.” Autophagy leads to improvements from head to toe, boosting digestion, immunity, brain function, metabolism and more. Our bodies can respond so well to eating just one meal a day that stress hormones are slashed by half, per an NIH study. “OMAD keeps you in autophagy a long time, so you benefit more.” (Click through to learn more about the benefits of autophagy.)

Why pizza skillets and OMAD are a powerful combo

Eat Like A Bear’s pizza skillet (keep scrolling for recipe) is low in carbs but rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and protein — all key to keeping hunger down while boosting weight loss and well-being. But the real reason it helps so much? Pizza is fun. “It’s comfort food we look forward to,” says Amanda, who riffed off Domino’s pizza to create her recipe. “It’s been one of my most popular recipes. Liquid Smoke is my new secret ingredient. It gives it a wood-fired taste.” You end up with food you love that’ll do great things for your body.

To date, Amanda estimates her pizza-skillet fans, most of them women over the age of 50, have shed over 600,000 pounds. (Click through for more about boosting OMAD results. )

Eat pizza and lose weight success story: Camie Crisp, 70

About 18 months ago, Camie Crisp fell and broke her knee. “Doctors thought I’d need surgery, and that my weight would make recovery hard,” recalls the Texas grandmother, 70. “I’d already tried every diet. I didn’t know what to do.” Then she saw an Eat Like A Bear post on Facebook. “I started reading stories about Amanda and all these wonderful Bears.”

Inspired, she signed up for the free 3-day challenge guidelines. “I decided I’d use recipes from the email they sent and give myself a 2 to 3 hour eating window. I was excited, but also scared I couldn’t do it.”

Camie found she loved the food — huge salads and skillet meals. Still the first couple days were hard. “I wanted to eat, eat, eat. But I managed to distract myself.” The next thing she knew, her hunger subsided “and my energy was so high, it was amazing to me.”

And that was before she discovered pizza skillets. “They are extremely easy and extremely tasty. It’s mind-boggling I can eat food like that and continue to lose weight,” she shares. “I make it at least twice a week with toppings like onions, peppers, sausage and ground beef.”

The skillets are so good, her husband ate them too. He lost 70 pounds. Camie lost 50 pounds in five months and 65 pounds in all; her knee healed without surgery. “I can walk on a treadmill for miles. I can bend. I can even ride my bike.” After 40 years on thyroid meds, doctors cut her dose. “This works at any age, for any body shape or starting weight,” she says. “Try it if you want to feel 30 again!”

Grieving the loss of her husband to cancer, Michele Brooks found Facebook’s Eat Like A Bear group. “I wanted to make sure I was still here for my family,” recalls the California grandmother, 60.

Despite little success with previous shape-up efforts, “the warmth of the group drew me in.” After white-knuckling the first week, her hunger dropped and her spirits lifted. She kept building momentum. Discovering pizza skillets helped.

“I’m not a cook, but they were easy to make and so good.” Did indulging in cheesy, prosciutto-topped goodness slow her results? Nope. She shed 50 pounds in three months, 94 in a year. “I got off blood pressure meds, and my knees feel brand-new. It was a lifesaver for my health.” And, she adds, the Bears’ support also helped heal her heart.
