After he was cast as Prince Charles in the final two seasons of The Crown, Dominic West didn't reach out to his friend, Prince Harry. "I didn't think it was appropriate to call him up and ask him for tips," West told Entertainment Tonight with a laugh.

He added, "I haven't spoken to him for many years. We did walk to the South Pole together with a lot of wounded soldiers, so I got to know him pretty well."

In 2013, both West and Prince Harry participated in a charity race through Antarctica. In the Walking with the Wounded challenge, Harry joined Team UK and West was on a Commonwealth team made up of Australians and Canadians. The point of the endeavor is to raise money for injured servicemen and women.

"He was very much part of the team, he seemed to specialise in building latrines. He built this incredible castellated structure with blocks to keep out the wind and it even had a [toilet] roll holder," West said about Prince Harry after their Antarctic charity trek. "They had a flag pole and a loo roll holder that were surrounded by blocks of snow. He must have taken 45 minutes to create each one."

He joked, "I'd be sitting there, looking at a beautiful view thinking, 'This is the royal flush!'"

A young Prince Harry barely features in season five of The Crown, with only a few select scenes featuring Princess Diana and her sons, and others featuring a young Prince William—played by West's real son, Senan, in later episodes of the season.

West was initially apprehensive about taking on the role of Prince Charles, he told Town & Country. "I’m a big fan of Prince Charles, as he was. I didn’t want to be doing anything to upset his mission." Yet, he was ultimately convinced by the quality of the show's writing.

The new season of The Crown is streaming now.
