  • On December 9, country singer Dolly Parton posted a rare photo on Facebook of her with Loretta Lynn when they were younger.

  • The two country stars are longtime friends and have long been associated with each other, with both singers having made their musical breakthrough in the '60s.

Country superstar Dolly Parton recently took to Facebook to share a major throwback photo with longtime friend and fellow country legend Loretta Lynn. The "Jolene" singer honored her friendship with Loretta with a caption that read, "Friends forever ✨". What made the shared photo even sweeter was Loretta's response in the comments, as she promptly wrote back to Dolly, "Love you honey!"

The sweet snap, shown below, includes the two stars side by side when they were younger. Dolly is rocking a pink number embellished with a pink rhinestone heart, while Loretta looks radiant in a blue-and-white dress with crochet detailing.

As country artists who both made their breakthrough in the '60s, the two have stayed close. In 1993, Dolly and Loretta collaborated, along with the late Tammy Wynette, on an album titled Honky Tonk Angels. It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Country charts and was certified gold by the RIAA about two months after its release.

Even outside the recording studio, Dolly and Loretta share a long history of friendship. The stars often publicly show support for one another, posting on social media to honor each other on birthdays and for various milestones. Earlier this year in October, Loretta shared an equally sweet but more recent photo of the two country stars together on Twitter, celebrating Dolly’s 50 year mark as a member of the Grand Ole Opry since she was first inducted in 1969. Calling the fellow country singer her “mountain sister,” she congratulated Dolly on her 50th anniversary and concluded her Tweet with the sweet message, “I love her music and I will always love her.”

Earlier this month, Dolly made a special appearance at the Boston Common tree-lighting ceremony before surprising fans again at the opening night of the musical Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, delighting the crowds in a special Santa-inspired dress at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre. These appearances came a few weeks after the release of Dolly Parton's Heartstrings, a special eight-episode anthology series on Netflix offering a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration and stories behind Dolly's most beloved songs.

Meanwhile, Loretta recently made a rare appearance in the audience at the 2019 CMA Awards on November 13, which Dolly kicked off with a powerful medley and opening monologue alongside Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire. After suffering a stroke in 2017, Loretta has largely stayed out of the public eye — though she was sure to shut down tabloid rumors earlier this summer that she was in an assisted nursing home on her deathbed.

Regardless of the two country stars' separate projects in the new year, here's hoping that we’ll get even more sweet photos of the two friends together soon!
