  • Fans of Dolly are thrilled with the new movie.

It’s about to be a very holly, Dolly Christmas.

As if the release of Dolly Parton’s first Christmas album in 30 years wasn't enough to ignite our excitement for the holiday season, now, we get to enjoy a movie with the 74-year-old singer front and center, too.

On Tuesday, September 29, Netflix announced their newest holiday title, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square, which is streaming as of November 22. The much-anticipated movie is directed and choreographed by Debbie Allen, a three-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner, not to mention the actress who portrays Catherine Avery on Grey’s Anatomy.

The film itself centers on Regina Fuller (played by Christine Baranski, aka Martha May Whovier from How The Grinch Stole Christmas), a snippy, wealthy woman whose mission is to evict the residents of the small town she grew up in following her father’s death. Naturally, the dramatic plot line takes place at Christmastime and the holiday spirit—illustrated by camaraderie with the townsfolk, a rekindled flame with a past love, and advice from an actual angel (played by Dolly, of course!)—ensures Regina doesn’t ruin the most wonderful time of year.

Fans were especially excited about the trailer, commenting things like: "IM CRYING IM SO EXCITED I LOVE DOLLY PARTON" and "Christine Baranski in a Christmas musical with Dolly Parton is exactly what 2020 needs."

While the story itself is undoubtedly enough to put a reminder on our calendars to tune in, the fact that the film features more than a dozen original songs by Dolly has us kicking off the countdown now. Luckily for us, we don't have to wait to hear a sneak peek. The country crooner also included a special new song, “Christmas on the Square,” to celebrate the movie announcement as part of her new Christmas album.

Naturally, fans were ecstatic about Dolly's career news, with many taking to social media to express how grateful they were for her holiday cheer. "A ray of light in our dark lives," one person said. "Here for it," said another. But this comment really captures how we all feel: "Dolly is saving Christmas."

A few fans shared their early reactions to the film on Twitter, as well:
