Dog Trainer Lists 3 Dogs Breeds He Wouldn’t Personally Have

Is there any kind of dog breed that you wouldn't consider as a pet? Garret Wing is a professional dog trainer and owner of American Standard K9. He shared a video on Friday, February 9th of the Top 3 dog breeds he would never personally own, and the reasons might surprise you.

Now you might be thinking that he's going to say Pitbull or Rottweiler because people are afraid of them, or maybe a Saint Bernard or other big dog because of their size. Two of the dogs he'd never own are dog breeds that I have heard of, and the other one was new to me. What was interesting about this is that two of the reasons why are good ones, while the last dog and reason will make you laugh!

Do you agree with the dogs he mentioned? I had never heard of the Central Asian Shepherd, and his reason why he wouldn't own it makes sense...he doesn't have any livestock wandering around! I had never heard that Bloodhounds are stinky, and it's a good reason not to want that dog breed. But my favorite was what @Garret had to say about the Chihuahua, "If I needed a 3-pound demon from the underworld, that served no other purpose than to sit on my lap and bites anything that comes within 3 feet of me, then I would get a Chihuahua". That cracked me up!

How to Choose the Perfect Dog

If you asked five different people to list 5 dog breeds they'd love to own and five dog breeds that they'd never own, you would many different answers. The reason is because everybody is looking for different things when it comes to deciding on a pet. I don't like dogs that bark a lot whereas you may not mind it. I love little dogs, but my kids all want a big dog. It's hard to find the perfect pet because there isn't one dog breed that's perfect.

There are so many factors to consider when choosing a dog that's right for you, and that you'll also be right for as well. If you work a lot and need to leave the dog alone for hours at a time by itself, a high energy busy dog like a Jack Russell Terrier might not be right for you, but an English Bulldog might. If you are looking for a dog that doesn't shed a lot, a Labrador Retriever may not be a good choice, but a Labradoodle would.

Just because a dog looks cute doesn't mean it'll be the right dog for your family, and there are pros and cons that come with all dog breeds. That's why it's so important to do a lot of research before settling on a dog...it'll save you and the dog a lot of frustration and heartache that may come from making a choice on a whim.
