Dog Rescued After Spending a Week Trapped in a Shipping Container

On Wednesday in Houston, inspectors from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston heard barking and scratching coming from one of the containers  that they were randomly checking.

They opened the container, and were greeted by a very frightened and hungry pup.

The Facebook post explains, "MST3 Bryan Wainscott, MST1 Lucas Loe, MST2 Ryan McMahon, and MST3 Jose Reyes were busy randomly selecting from thousands of shipping containers for inspection. Suddenly, they heard barking and scratching coming from one of the containers in a stack. When they lowered the container and opened the door, a dog popped out!"

I can't even imagine what these heroic coast guard inspectors were thinking! The dog was in a container 25ft off the ground with old vehicles scheduled to be shipped overseas.

This sweet girl pup was stuck the container for at least a week and was tired, hungry, and very happy to see her rescuers. The post explains the Coast Guard members gave her water and brought her to a local animal shelter for further care. Thanks to their actions, Connie the Container Dog is safe and sound!

Other Times The Coast Guard Has Saved Animals

In Texas in March of 2023, the coast guard rescued two people and their pet cat when their sailboat was disabled and dragging its anchor.

In June of 2020 in North Carolina the coast guard rescued a family and their pet cat from their houseboat that was sinking along the Scuppernong River in Albemarle Sound.

Just last month the coast guard rescued a dog that fell off a cliff along the Oregon coast. After he was saved the dog reunited with his owners.

Members of the coast guard station in Wisconsin rescued a pup who fell into the icy waters of Kenosha. The dog was in the water for about 15 minutes before she was saved.

Every day these heroic men and women are not only saving the humans that need their help, but also numerous cats, dogs and other wildlife. Every day they risk their lives and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.

Connie is available for adoption, and if you'd like more information about this dog, you can visit the Pasadena Animal Shelter and fill out an application using Animal ID 168752!
