Man’s best friend is not an exact science.

Some people might go for a terrier over a bulldog. Some like giant dogs, while others like the teacup pooches. There’s my dog. There’s your dog. And well, my dog’s better than your dog, my dog’s better than yours, and so on.

How would someone even begin ranking the top breeds, you ask? We kept the formula simple: One part Classic Eye Test (that undeniable, sheer dogness), and 5000 parts dog-loving subjectivity.

Based on that, here are our 101 favorite dog breeds. (And yes, No. 101 could easily be No. 1… in your heart.)
