  • He will play himself in Hunting God, a faith-based film about a recent widower.

Dog the Bounty Hunter is coming to the big screen!

The A&E reality star will show off his acting skills with a supporting role in an upcoming film called Hunting God. According to IMDb, the "faith-based thriller" tells the story of a recent widower who reunites with old friends from church to film a hunting show in the woods, and he's met with a supernatural presence that forces him to confront his faith.

Dog is slated to play himself in the movie, which began filming last year and will add new scenes this month. He'll be joining a cast that includes actors Wesley Truman Daniel, Ann Sonneville, Mickey O'Sullivan, and Jennifer Jelsema.

"This isn't your grandfather’s faith-based film. Our goal is to break the mold and hopefully inspire more fresh and innovative content," director Justin Jackola told Deadline. "We're thrilled to have Dog on board. He brings a level of understanding and compassion to the film no one else could match."

It's true that Dog has been through a lot, especially in the past year. After being hospitalized for chest pains and eventually diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, the Dog's Most Wanted star was recently forced to dispute online rumors about his own death. The 66-year-old also continues to mourn the loss of his wife Beth Chapman, who passed away in June after a long battle with throat cancer. Though it's been six months since Beth died, losing the love of his life hasn't gotten any easier for Dog.

"I will probably never love anyone else as much as I loved her," he admitted to People.

Despite Dog's connection to the part of the widower in Hunting God, it's still unclear how his role as himself fits into the plot. A release date for the film has not yet been announced, so we'll have to wait to find out more!
