What does it all mean? How 2023 adds up in numerology and mathematic equations

For the second year in a raw, fireworks will light up Wilmington's Riverfront as part of a family-themed New Year's Eve celebration.

The year 2023. Many people, eager to leave 2022 behind, found significance in 2023 - literally, the numerical expression 2023. The remarkable mathematical phenomena of 2023 captivated people's attention and became a topic of great excitement on social media as users delved into its intricacies and sought to uncover deeper meanings. Here are three:

Everyone's age and birth date add up to 2023

A widely circulated Facebook post claimed that adding your age to the year you were born will add up to 2023. The post declares this is an anomaly that only happens once every 1000 years. While the math is accurate, this claim has been discredited. It's simple math. The sum will always be the current year if you add your birth year and your age after your birthday has passed. Give it a try.

2023 - the year the math was mathing

Some people just love math. It isn't just numbers; it's a language. Professor Harold Reiter of UNC‑Charlotte discovered that the sum of the digits of a year, multiplied by the square of the sum of the squares of the digits, equals the year itself and applied this fact to 2023. It works out to this:

(2 + 0 + 2 + 3) × (2² + 0² + 2² + 3²)2 = 2023.

This mind-boggling equation is just one of many formulas and findings that people came up with to play with the number 2023.

Ending 2023 on a positive note

The last date of the year is 12/31/23 - numerically written as 123123. In numerology, this is an angel number, or repeating number sequences, usually used as a guide for deeper spiritual exploration. According to the Farmer's Almanac, 123 is the symbol for self-love, connection and growth.

Even more, if you add all the numbers in 123123 together it equals 12. The number 12 is also an angel number symbolizing spiritual enlightenment and the release of hang-ups that hamper individuals and society at large.

The last date of 2023 is a rarity that only occurs once every 100 years. The next 12/31/23 will be Dec. 31, 2123.
