Does 'The Last Thing He Told Me' End Like the Book?

The Last Thing He Told Me is the latest drama from Reese Witherspoon, starring one of Hollywood's favorite matriarchs, Jennifer Garner, as a woman protecting her estranged stepdaughter after her husband disappears.

Based on the novel by Laura Dave, the Apple TV+ series already has fans clamoring for a second season—but will it happen?

What is The Last Thing He Told Me ending?

The novel The Last Thing He Told Me ends with Hannah realizing Owen won't be in her and Bailey's lives ever again. She makes a deal with Nicolas, Bailey's grandfather and part of a crime syndicate, to keep Bailey safe, and they return home to California, opting not to go into the Witness Protection Program. A man assumed to be Owen, though looking very different, bumps into Hannah years later on the street, but doesn't stay. Bailey, bringing a new boyfriend home, calls Hannah "mom."

The show's ending has yet to be seen, but will likely follow a similar script.

Will The Last Thing He Told Me get a Season 2?

If the series follows the book, it'll likely conclude with its ends neatly tied up.

Then again, on a recent panel at Deadline’s The Night Before Contenders event, Dave hinted that she might continue the story of Hannah and her family—or that she'd at least be willing to consider it.

“Now whenever I’m writing I see Jen’s face, which is a very nice face to see, but it makes me feel like Hannah’s story is not done,” she said.

Who will be in The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 cast?

If greenlit, we can assume the cast will include:

Jennifer Garner as Hannah

Jennifer Garner will obviously be likely to return as Hannah, piecing together the mystery of her husband's past.

Angourie Rice as Bailey

Angourie Rice will likely be back as Bailey, this time with an improved relationship with Hannah and a new life to rebuild.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Owen

Though he's long gone from their lives, we may see Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in flashbacks again as Owen.

Aisha Tyler as Jules

Aisha Tyler may likely return as Jules, Hannah's best friend who also happens to be a killer investigative journalist.

John Harlan Kim as Bobby

Assuming they don't split up in the series or offscreen, John Harlan Kim will probably be back as Bobby, Bailey's boyfriend. (This may also depend on whether the ending mirrors the book ending precisely.)

Augusto Aguilera as Grady

Augusto Aguilera may be back as the U.S. Marshal Grady, who's investigating Owen's disappearance, depending on how the first season wraps up.

Victor Garber as Tobias Goodman

Garner's former Alias co-star and beloved friend Victor Garber (who officiated her wedding to ex-husband Ben Affleck) may return as Tobias Goodman, a mathematician at the University of Texas Austin who helps Hannah with her mission to uncover her husband's past.

Geoff Stults as Jake

Geoff Stults stars as Jake, Hannah's ex and an attorney. Hannah approaches him for help resolving the issues left after Owen's disappearance.

This will presumably happen sometime after it's announced—which it hasn't been yet.
