What Does GOT7 Stand For?

From Seventeen

K-Pop has been taking the world by storm and GOT7 is the latest group that's about to take over your Spotify page and get you listening to them non-stop as you wait for their next album.

If you still haven't heard about them just yet, then you definitely need to take the time to check them out. After forming in 2014, the boys have been taking the world by storm with their music and they're just getting started.

Mark, JB, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom came together to create the band after they were recruited by JYP Enterainment. According to the creator of the band, Jin-young Park, the band was originally going to be a mixed-gender band called GOT6. Their name is said to be derived from g.o.d., another Korean boy-band.

After getting 7 members, the band was going to be called GET7, however, they decided to change it to GOT7, so people wouldn't get it confused with the word "gae," which means dog in Korean. They decided to change it to past tense and make it GOT7. 7 is considered a lucky number and together means "7 people who got lucky."

Since they debuted, they've kept the name GOT7 and fans have even adopted the name iGOT7 as their fandom name. The name represents that they got love for the band, as well as they are super lucky and wish luck on each other. In Korea, the fandom is known as "AhGaSe" which is an abbreviation of the name. This translates to baby bird, which has become a popular symbol for the fans and are even seen on their light sticks.
