There’s a New Doc About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Baby, and It Spilled So Much Tea

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first child is reportedly due at the end of this month, so naturally people are buzzing for details. Are they having a boy or a girl? What is Markle's birthing plan? Will Princess Diana be incorporated into the name? Demand for information is so high that we even spoke to an expert, Katie Nicholl, about all the rumors surrounding Baby Sussex.

But the people want more. So it's no surprise TLC premiered a documentary Tuesday night that spilled even more tea about Markle and Prince Harry's baby. Aptly titled Meghan & Harry: A Royal Baby Story, this 43-minute special featured commentary from several Kensington Palace experts about the new addition to the Sussex family. Some of the information you've heard before—like how Markle is maybe-probably-definitely doing hypnobirthing—but there are some new nuggets as well. For instance: What type of advice will Markle go to Kate Middleton for after her baby arrives? Find out the answer to that and some other key questions, below.

There's a precedent for royal women to become pregnant shortly after marriage. "We saw that with the queen herself—pregnant within a year—and with Diana, who was pregnant within 100 days," historian Kate Williams says.

Everyone freaked out when Markle had her coat button undone at Princess Eugenie's wedding. It's bizarre we're still picking apart women's bodies and looking for "baby bumps," but alas, Hello! royal editor Emily Nash says this style snafu is what gave away that Markle was pregnant. Personally, I think the pregnancy announcement from October is what did that.

The similarities between Prince Harry's and Markle's upbringings. Royals expert Katie Nicholl says there are a lot of parallels in their childhoods. For example, they were each brought up to be "socially aware of those less fortunate." "That is something I'm sure will influence [Meghan and Harry's] parenting," she adds.

The differences between Kate Middleton's and Markle's pregnancies. "Kate has had tricky pregnancies with all three of her children," the Sun's royal correspondent Emily Andrews says. "She had really [intense] morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, which meant she was essentially sick the first 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Perhaps she didn't enjoy pregnancy as much, whereas Meghan didn't have any problems in conceiving; she seems to be literally glowing."

Their pregnancy styles are different too. Nicholl says Markle's pregnancy wardrobe is more "experimental" and "daring" than Middleton's. Adds journalist Ashley Pearson, "Kate Middleton has a whole other set of rules and restrictions because she's going to be queen. She and Meghan are not on the same page. Kate Middleton has to wear her skirts at a certain length. The queen is regularly—allegedly—giving notes if she doesn't like a certain hem or certain outfit on Kate or certain color type."

How much Markle has spent on maternity clothes. As we reported in March, the estimated cost is around $500,000.

Why Markle cradles her baby bump. "Whether it's a protective instinct she's doing or whether it's a way to make sure everyone gets a good picture, Meghan is definitely, definitely way into the belly cup," Pearson says.

Markle and Prince Harry probably won't follow tradition when it comes to dressing their children. Per Pearson, "Even in the dead winter, the little Prince George has on wool shorts and high socks. This is the most British thing ever. Americans do not do this. I'm going to make a bold statement and say if Harry and Meghan have a boy, he's not going to appear in the traditional British short pants and pulled-up knee socks in December." Andrews agrees, predicting Markle and Prince Harry's child will be dressed more "trendily" than traditionally.

Markle's birth plan. Andrews is another expert who thinks Markle is doing hypnobirthing, which is essentially meditating through the pain of pregnancy. She says, "That kind of approach fits in with everything we know about Markle: the spiritual side in her, not wanting to have any kind of medical intervention unless it's necessary. No pain relievers or epidurals." There's also speculation Markle might hire a doula, which is a female birthing coach.

Will Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, be present for the birth? "There's no doubt in my mind that Doria will be there," Pearson says.

Prince Harry will be a hands-on father. "From the birth right through and beyond," Nicholl says.

Markle's nursery. Nicholl says, "I was told she wanted a gender-neutral nursery and that she very much stuck to her favorite monochrome palette of whites and grays."

The queen will be a constant presence in Baby Sussex's life. Her Majesty spends most of her time at Windsor Castle, which is where Markle and Prince Harry's new home, Frogmore Cottage, is located. "She loves to walk around the gardens of Frogmore House. She picks flowers for her desk, and she'll be dropping in and seeing her great-grandchild," Nicholl says.

How Middleton will play a part in Markle's family life. Pearson says, "I can see Meghan asking Kate for advice about what to wear for the royal christening photo, but I think in terms of the rest of it, she will do exactly what she feels is best."

The baby shower. Per earlier reports, it took place at New York City's The Mark hotel inside a $75,000-per-night suite, paid for by Markle's good friend Serena Williams. The total cost of the shower, according to the documentary, was around $200,000.

Will Meghan Markle's father, Thomas, ever meet his grandchild? Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, says no, which he finds "desperately sad." Adds Andrews, "He hasn't even met Prince Harry, so I think it's safe to say he's not going to meet his new granddaughter or grandson for a very long time."

The name. Nicholl predicts Albert or Bertie for a boy; Andrews says David. Broadcaster Sarah-Jane Crawford thinks Doria will find its way into a girl's name. Pearson says the baby will have a British name and honor Princess Diana in some way.
