DMV educator teaching children of all learning levels through music

Dr. Kate Moran eared her Doctorate in Special Education, from George Mason University, and has worked in education for more than two decades. She works for the Department of Education in the Office of Special Education Programs. When she is not working, Moran is doing what she loves, teaching children through music.

Moran is also known as The Rainbow Lady, and she is the driving force behind the Rainbow Rock Band. Through their musical performances, they teach kids of all learning levels through music and movement. “I try to write the songs and the material in a way that gets the kids moving and refine their motor skills and connecting colors with movement or shapes,” said Moran, “With movement, it’s connecting a concept which will help the kids retain that information better.”

Moran says her work helps children with disabilities become engaged and that is a big part of the learning process.
