DK's Corner relocating to Jessup

A Midvalley eatery will soon have a new, larger home.

David Klem and Deanna Tallo established DK’s Corner at 802 E. Lackawanna Ave. in Olyphant in November 2021 and plan to reopen a new location at 201 Cherry St. in Jessup — the former spot of Mafalda’s Italian Specialties — by June 1.

“Our business is growing,” Tallo said. “A lot of our business spreads through the Jessup, Archbald and Peckville area, so everybody is very excited that we’re in a better location. This place is a lot closer and more convenient for people. It’s going to help us work more efficiently and we’re going to expand our menu.”

In addition to continuing offering specialty coffees, breakfast sandwiches, cheesesteaks and other lunch favorites, Tallo added the new space will allow the business to do more off-premises catering.

It will also provide an opportunity to serve more people and foster more friendships.

“Our customers are like our friends and family,” Tallo said. “Everybody who comes in ... we know what they get, and we know their names.”

After outgrowing the Olyphant location, Klem stressed the new spot met their needs.

“We tripled the size,” he said. “I knew the guy who owned it and I said we need a bigger place. We looked at it and we said, ‘this is it.’ ”

Jessup Councilman Curt Camoni, who also serves as executive director of the Lackawanna County Convention and Visitors Bureau, believes DK’s Corner will be a valuable addition to the borough.

“I’m super excited about it,” he said. “DK’s is a fantastic company and their food is amazing. I’m thrilled they’re coming to Jessup.”

Camoni recalls going to Mafalda’s with his dad as a child and feels DK’s will bring some charm back to the iconic spot.

“They worked so hard to build that business up,” he said. “It’s a staple building and it’s really nice to see that it’s going to be brought back to life and put to good use. It has always been one the best spots in Jessup and I look forward to it being that again.”
