DJ Tiesto Is Engaged to Model Annika Backes: See the Announcement

Now they’ll be running red lights together. Tiësto, one of the most prolific DJs in the world, is engaged to model Annika Backes, he revealed via social media on Sunday, December 3.

The “Red Lights” hitmaker, 48, took to Instagram to share a photo of his fiancée leaning in to give him a kiss at a resort. “I am gonna spend the rest of my life with the love of my life,” he announced.

Backes also took to Instagram to share the same snapshot and a sweet message of her own. “I am the luckiest girl in the world,” she expressed. “To get to spend the rest of my life with the best man ever. I love you more than you will ever know!”

The proposal appears to have taken place at the One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives. The Dutch DJ, best known for hits like “Wasted,” “Feel It in My Bones,” and “We Own the Night,” was greeted with an influx of congratulatory remarks from other well-known figures in the EDM community.

Dutch DJ Dyro, as well as “How We Party” hitmakers Alessandro Vinai and Andrea Vinai took to Twitter to congratulate their fellow artist. Marshmello and Swedish House Mafia former member Ingrosso also reacted to the news on Twitter.

Tiesto (Tijs Michiel Verwest) has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a DJ. He was the first-ever DJ in Olympic history to perform at the opening games, playing a memorable 90-minute set at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
