How to make a DIY version of Target’s sold-out Halloween pumpkin decoration, Lewis

People are officially obsessed with “Lewis-O’-Lantern,” the new Halloween ghoul from Target. The 8-foot-tall, pumpkin-faced decoration went super viral on TikTok over the past week, and much like Home Depot’s beloved 12-foot skeleton, it’s out of stock in a number of locations because Halloween lovers continue to decorate.

In fact, Lewis is so popular that he completely sold out online and at many Target locations, which is leaving some Halloween lovers pretty bummed out. But for those who haven’t been able to get their hands on the real thing or can’t justify spending $180 on a decoration, there’s still a way to bring Lewis home.

Christina Sera (@christinaseramusic), a singer-songwriter from Orlando, Fla., has discovered an easy way to create a mini Lewis — or at least the closest thing to it — and her DIY idea is getting lots of praise on TikTok.

According to one of her recent videos, Sera began by visiting a Build-A-Bear store and customizing a @christinaseramusic Lewis the ✨not✨ jack-o’-lantern bear! #mynameislewis #lewisfromtarget #halloween2023 #notajackolantern #targetlewisolantern #buildabear #targethalloween #lewis #halloweendecor ♬ original sound – Astronaut Art “>Pumpkin Glow Bear, which starts at just $27.50. Just like Lewis, the Pumpkin Glow Bear has a light-up jack-o’-lantern face, and while the stuffed animal doesn’t stand anywhere near 8 feet tall, you can still make him look a little creepy.

In her video, Sera plays a TikTok of Target’s Lewis talking for a Build-A-Bear employee, who then records it on a portable voice box for an extra $9.99.

Finally, the worker fills the bear with stuffing, places the voice recorder inside and hands him over to Sera, who looks pretty pleased with the result.

“Lewis the *not* jack-o’-lantern bear!” Sera wrote in the caption of her video, which now has more than 880,000 views.

She even made things official by creating one of Build-A-Bear’s signature birth certificates for her bear, naming it Lewis and setting its birthday to October 31, 2023.

TikTokers seemed to love the idea — so much so that many have been inspired to make their own.

“WELP GUESS IM GOING TO BUILD A BEAR,” wrote @hurricaneashh.

“SAY LESS IM RUNNING BEFORE THEY SELL OUT,” added @kirsty.l426.

In a follow-up video, Sena agreed that her mini Lewis does, in fact, need a little black cape to complete his look, and she was still on the hunt for an inexpensive solution.

“If anyone has any ideas on how to DIY it if you have absolutely no sewing skills, let me know,” the TikToker told her followers.
