Here are the supplies you will need:

  • Pinecones

  • Peanut butter

  • Butter knives (or another tool for spreading peanut butter, like a spoon or paintbrush)

  • Birdseed

  • Twine (or string)

  • Twigs (optional)

Tip: If you don’t have pine cones, you can use empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls instead.

How to make a pine cone bird feeder:

  1. Using a butter knife, spread the peanut butter onto the edges all around the pine cone.

  2. Sprinkle the birdseed onto the pine cone, so the seeds stick to the peanut butter. It’s best if you do this over something to catch the seeds as they fall, like a baking tray.

  3. Attach the twine to the top of the pine cone.

  4. Place a twig in between the wedges of the pine cone, if you are using twigs. This will create a spot for the birds to perch while getting the seeds.

  5. Hang the pine cone bird feeder wherever you’d like in your yard.
