Disneyland Reportedly Shutting Down 3 Fan-Favorite Rides

This summer may be slightly less magical at Disneyland.

Travel + Leisure reports that three visitor-favorite rides will temporarily close: Peter Pan's Flight, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and Alice in Wonderland. The attractions will be shut down for refurbishments starting on June 5. Disneyland has not given an estimated date for when the rides will reopen, or what updates will be included in the rides.

These rides aren't the only ones getting refurbished at Disneyland. According to All Ear's calendar, The Matterhorn Bobsleds were also closed for refurbishment on April 17, with no reopening date announced yet.

The good news is that parts of the park that were closed for refurbishment earlier in the year, will be open for the summer season. Disneyland unveiled the updated version of Toontown in March after shutting down the area for a year. It includes new attraction Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (which debuted at Florida's Hollywood Studios in 2020) and Chip ‘n’ Dale's GADGET coaster.

The land also includes new interactive experiences, including a playable water fountain, a sound garden, and a candy-making contraption.

However, the park will also experience some big, permanent changes. Splash Mountain will officially close on May 31, due to its connection to the 1956 Disney film, Song of the South, which has been criticized for its racist qualities, stereotypes of Black men, and romanticized view of life in the post-Civil War South.

The classic ride will transform into Tiana's Bayou Adventure, slated to open at some point in 2024. As reported by MiceChat, the New Orleans Square section of the park has already updated the surrounding area of the ride, shuttering French Market Restaurant to include Tiana's Palace, the restaurant owned by the princess in the film.
