Disneyland Will Become A Massive Site For COVID-19 Vaccinations Later This Week
Disneyland is set to become a "super" vaccination site and health officials at the site will begin distributing doses of the COVID-19 vaccination later this week.
"The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county's first Super POD site—undertaking a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process," acting chairman Andrew Do, Orange County Supervisor representing the First District told CBS News in a statement.
The Disney theme parks in California will be made into a "Super Point-of-Dispensing" site, the first of five expected to open in the county. Health officials will be stationed at these sites and will have the capacity to vaccinate thousands of people collectively every day. They are expected to help speed up what has been a slower vaccine roll-out across the U.S. than some had hoped. As with most of the U.S., vaccines in Orange County will be given to people in phases, with law enforcement and first responders in the first phase, as well as people over 75 being added to the eligible group as well.
In order to be vaccinated at this site, you must fall into one of those groups and have an appointment. Most people who qualify for the vaccine will be contacted by their employer, Orange County officials told The LA Times. Residents can check to see if they're eligible at www.covidvaccinefacts.com and are urged not to try to make an appointment unless they are eligible.
"Disneyland Resort is proud to help support Orange County and the City of Anaheim with the use of our property, and we are grateful for all of their efforts to combat COVID-19," Dr. Pamela Hymel, Chief Medical Officer of. Disney Parks, Experiences and Products told CBS News in a statement: "After a year in which so many in our community have faced unprecedented hardship and uncertainty, there is now reason for optimism with the administration of a vaccine."
