Disney World Reveals One Of Its Fastest Roller Coasters Yet Is Opening This Spring

The new 'TRON' roller coaster ride is coming to Tomorrowland in Spring 2023.

Disney World is amping things up in 2023, and that means bringing in one of their fastest roller coasters to date.

This spring, the Orlando, Fl. based theme park is welcoming a speedy new ride, the TRON Lightcycle / Run, which will be one of the fastest roller coasters at any Disney theme park in the world.

Inspired by the Disney sci-fi film TRON: Legacy, the new coaster will board riders on their very own Lightcycle and "take off on a high-speed adventure, racing against the Grid's most menacing Programs," per the Disney World Resort website. Thrill seekers who are ready to leave the real world behind will have to plunge ahead of their fierce competitors in the ultimate race of survival while attempting to cross through 8 Energy Gates and bring their team to victory.

The new attraction will be located in Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, and according to Elite Daily, it's going in a brand new section north of Space Mountain and between Tomorrowland Speedway and Fantasyland's Story Book Circus.

The dark, computerized adventure with multi-sensory tunnel chambers doesn't come as Disney's first attempt at a TRON-inspired ride, as there already exists a TRON Lightcycle Power Run ride at Shanghai Disneyland, which opened in 2016.

Disney World's version of the new themed ride was initially supposed to open in Fall 2021, before it was postponed as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. Now, an exact opening date is unclear, but park visitors can expect to ride the coaster sometime this spring.

TRON Lightcycle / Run comes as part of the "Disney 100 Years of Wonder" anniversary celebration, which is bringing even more attractions to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2023.
