Disney World and Disneyland Have Temporarily Closed Due to Coronavirus
Disney announced this week that it was closing all of its U.S. theme parks, and those around the world, because of coronavirus, according to CNN.
Along with the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida, Disney also announced Thursday evening that it would be closing Disneyland Paris in France.
“In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of our theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort, beginning at the close of business on Sunday, March 15, through the end of the month,” the statement said.
Disney announced earlier that day that Disneyland in Anaheim, California, would close Saturday morning. Its parks in Asia closed earlier this month, so this news marks the temporary closure of all Disney parks around the world due to coronavirus concerns.
In addition, the company also confirmed to CNN that it would not be initiating any new voyages on Disney Cruise Line starting Saturday and lasting through the end of March. All hotels in Disney World and Disneyland Paris will be open “until further notice” and it noted that cast members would be paid during the parks’ closing. Disneyland’s hotels will remain open until Monday before closing temporarily.
Disney Springs at Walt Disney World and Disney Village at Disneyland Paris will remain open until stated otherwise, according to Variety.
Universal Studios Hollywood followed shortly after the announcements, saying that its California park would close beginning Saturday and hopes to reopen on March 28. Universal Studios Orlando will close Sunday and will remain so until the end of the month.
