Fifteen years ago, Karrie, the blogger behind Minnie Ear Collectors, picked up her first pair of Minnie Mouse ears — a black sequin pair with the Disney character's signature red bow. Many years and countless Walt Disney World trips later, her collection multiplied, reaching about 600 ears total.
While some were impulse buys, most of her collection has been thoughtfully curated. "I collect them to be able to wear them because that is my enjoyment," she tells Good Housekeeping in the video above. For that reason, she goes for ears that are tailored to different seasons, parks (both international and stateside), themed events (Epcot's Food and Wine Festival, for example) and characters.
Sometimes, it's about the thrill of the hunt. Limited-edition ears are tough to track down in the park, especially if they are exclusive to one of Disney's international locations, so she turns to resale sites like eBay, Mercari and Poshmark to find them at a fair price. Her most impressive (and arguably most expensive) pair: one of 500 Swarovski-encrusted ears designed by supermodel Heidi Klum, which she scored for the original retail price of $600.
