Disney Will Remake "Cheaper by the Dozen," "Home Alone," And More Beloved Films

There’s no doubt reboots are on the up and up, and Disney knows this better than anyone. Following a slew of live action remakes for theatrical release — which include The Lion King, Mulan and The Little Mermaid — the Mickey Mouse company is now taking things one step further for its upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

Per Collider, on August 6, Robert Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced the company was planning to develop remakes of beloved family flicks including Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well as Cheaper by the Dozen exclusively for the platform.

And while some are not happy with Disney’s decision to reimagine such iconic hits, others are asking the hard-hitting questions. For instance (and most importantly): could Cheaper by the Dozen stars Hilary Duff and Tom Welling be part of this deal!?

“Why would anyone want a cheaper by the dozen remake when the one with hilary duff is superior,” one user wrote on Twitter after seeing the announcements. “The Home Alone remake is going to be a 1 minute short film. The parents realize they left their kid home alone and then call him on this cell phone and find out he is fine,” another user joked.

Apart from the title announcement, no further details have been given as to the future development of the reboots. However, all of them seem to still be in early talks, so truly nothing is really off the table.

On top of the newly announced projects though, Disney+ will feature a ton of new exclusive Marvel Studios and Star Wars content as well as our all-time favorite productions from Disney Animation, Pixar and Disney Channel.

Per The Verge, during the company’s investor call where the reboots were unveiled, Disney also announced the highly anticipated streaming platform will be launching on November 12 and will be available as part of a new bundle with Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99 in the U.S. on top of the standard $6.99 a month for the service on its own.

So we might have a long way to go until these reboots hit our screens but Disney+ will make sure we keep busy reliving our childhood until then.
