Disney+ Releases First "Stargirl" Trailer Starring Grace VanderWaal

So excited for this.

This week, Disney+ unveiled the first trailer for Stargirl starring Grace VanderWaal. The winner of the 11th season of America's Got Talent maybe be making her acting debut with this gorgeous-looking new movie, but you best believe Grace seems to be performing like a pro.

Adapted from the 2002 Jerry Spinelli novel of the same name, Stargirl tells the story of how Arizona teen Leo Borlock's (Graham Verchere) life changed forever once Stargirl (played by Grace) moved to his hometown. In the trailer, just like the book, we watch as Leo becomes fascinated with Stargirl. She wears bright colors, plays ukulele at football games, and lives out loud. For Leo, who was previously resigned to being a quiet nobody, meeting Stargirl is a shock to the system. As Leo and Stargirl get closer, he begins to open up around her and feel challenged by her in a way that will make this coming-of-age story feel big and magical and ultimately relatable.

When Teen Vogue spoke with Grace back in August 2019, the young musician/actor revealed what she loved most about her character. "She is so unapologetically herself and it's ridiculous because she's so young," she observed. "Stargirl is not afraid of anyone, of doing her own thing. She understands the concept that no one cares — or at least people don't care as much as you think they do."

The Stargirl trailer teases a very dreamy story, but one that's also relatable and touching. Between the storytelling and what seems to be some truly epic moments (I'm already ready for the duet Graham and Grace sing in the movie to drop on Spotify), this new Disney+ original movie is going to be the perfect Friday night watch.

Stargirl arrives on Disney+ on March 13. Watch the trailer below.
