Disney+ Releases "Diary of a Future President" Trailer
This week started off on a high note for Disney+ thanks to the release of the first trailer for Diary of a Future President, starring Gina Rodriguez as the future POTUS Elena Cañero-Reed and up-and-comer Tess Romero as the 12-year-old version of Tess.
Created by Ilana Peña (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), the trailer for Diary of a Future President teases a heartwarming and hilarious coming-of-age story told in flashbacks as we watch a Cuban-American girl learn important life lessons that will inevitably factor into the leader we know she becomes 28 years later. The story will kick off with older Elena receiving a package containing her diary from when she was in middle school. From there, we're off to the races as we watch the younger Elena deal with issues big and small, whether it's trying to keep her cool around her middle school crush or processing her single mom, Gabi (Orange Is the New Black alum Selenis Leyva), dating again.
If there is one thing we know Disney does extremely well, it's giving us a rock-solid coming-of-age story that's equal parts charming, fun, and engaging. I'm getting big, fun, Lizzie McGuire vibes from what we see of Tess's madcap journey through middle school and am already here for the very awkward lingerie moment with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend alum Rachel Bloom making an appearance along the way.
