Disney just released their top-secret recipe for fan-favorite Churro Bites—here’s the scoop

Many of us are sitting out a trip to ‘the happiest place on earth’ this year, but that doesn’t mean we’re not all seriously craving Churro Bites, the iconic snacks dished out at Disney Parks.

In a magical move, their kitchen just released the top-secret recipe for us to enjoy at home. We knew we had to give these a test drive. And (spoiler alert) that sugary, doughy crunch meets warm, soft cake-like experience can be yours in as little as the episode runtime of The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – that’s just 30 minutes!

Turns out every single ingredient you need for this recipe you already have at home (yes, seriously).

This is what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup water

  • 8 tablespoons butter

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided

  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • 3 eggs

  • 1½ cups vegetable or canola oil

  • ½ cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine water, butter, salt and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon in saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Bring the ingredients to a rolling boil and reduce the heat to low.

  3. Add flour and stir vigorously until mix forms a ball.

  4. Remove from heat and let rest for five to seven minutes.

  5. Add eggs, one at a time, and stir until combined. You may need to roll up your sleeves and use your hands for this step. Set aside.

  6. Using caution, heat oil in saucepan over medium-high heat or until temperature reaches 350 degrees.

  1. Spoon dough into a churro maker (this one is on sale for just $17), or a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.

  2. You can also pipe the dough into a churro press (similar to a waffle iron). These compact appliances don’t use oil, making this a healthier option.

  3. Pipe 1-inch strips of dough over the saucepan, cut with a knife, and allow them to drop into the hot oil.

  4. Fry until golden brown. Then transfer them with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-covered plate to dry.

  5. Mix sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in medium bowl. Toss in churro bites until coated.

While many countries have their own unique churro recipes, Spain and Portugal are often credited with the original creation. Today, the confection is enjoyed worldwide. You might find thin, thick, long, knotted and spiraled churros eaten with hot chocolate, café con leche, guava and more. That said, you definitely need to pair these with a dipping sauce or filling! You can always melt chocolate, but I’m Brazilian so here’s how to pull off doce de leite:

Dipping sauce

  1. Remove the label from a can of sweetened condensed milk and submerge it in a pot of water.

  2. Allow the water to boil, then reduce the heat to low.

  3. Simmer for 3 to 4 hours but keep an eye on it. Add water to the pot as it evaporates to cover the can completely.

  4. Allow the can to cool for several hours before opening.

The end results are equal parts crispy, cinnamon-y and delicious. I guess it’s no surprise Disney is serving up 5.5 million of these sweet treats every year. What is your favorite Disney treat? Comment below!
