Disney Just Ruined the Most Popular Instagram Backdrop at Magic Kingdom
The most popular Instagram wall at Walt Disney World is no longer the same. According to Touring Plans, the famed “purple wall,” an unofficial photo backdrop that has become well-known across social media, is now boasting a space-age theme far from its pastel origins.

Disney Parks had announced that enhancements were underway, but the graphite design is unexpected. It’s unclear if the new linear look is the final product or if it will be filled in to become more of a mural, but fans are sure to be surprised by the changes.
The exterior of Tomorrowland’s entrance at the Magic Kingdom caught on over the past few years for its perfect shade of flattering purple, inspiring its own fan account and even a line of official Disney Parks merchandise, including “Purple Wall” MagicBands and baseball hats.

While Instagram likes on lilac snapshots may never be the same, there are plenty of other photo-worthy backdrops and walls — including the multicolored “bubblegum wall” outside Epcot’s Spaceship Earth attraction — throughout Walt Disney World.
Still, the change will probably be worth it. Repainting the walkway between Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor and Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant is likely part of an early and larger-scale re-theming to enhance the land’s futuristic look prior to the arrival of Magic Kingdom’s Tron-themed roller coaster in 2021, which will be much better than an eye-catching backdrop.
