Disney Erects Sculpture to Memorialize Child Killed by Alligator

Lane Graves was playing by the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon at a Walt Disney World hotel when tragedy struck: The two-year-old was attacked and killed by an alligator.

His parents chose to honor his memory by founding the Lane Thomas Foundation, and now Disney has found a beautiful way to honor the little boy as well: They've erected a sculpture in the shape of a lighthouse in his honor near the site of the accident. The lighthouse honors the little boy, who reportedly loved introducing himself by saying "I'm Lane Thomas, I'm two."

The gold sculpture mimics the Lane Thomas Foundation's logo and is adorned with two bright blue stars and a plaque that reads "Presented to the Lane Thomas Foundation. A beacon of hope. A light of love," which is the Foundation's motto.

The Lane Thomas Foundation benefits children who require organ donation.

"We find comfort that so many people continue to remember our sweet boy, Lane, and we believe the lighthouse stands as a beacon of hope and support for families in the depths of despair,” Lane's family said in a statement, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "We will continue to honor Lane and preserve his spirit through the Lane Thomas Foundation."
