Disney Channel's "Descendants 3" Honored Cameron Boyce With a Heartfelt Video Tribute

After much excitement, Disney Channel's Descendants 3 premiered on Friday, August 2. But the evening was understandably bittersweet: Many — including the film's cast — are mourning the loss of star Cameron Boyce, who passed away on July 7. Millions of Disney fans grew up with Cameron on their television screens every night, and Descendants producers knew that the film's release would be the perfect time to honor the actor's legacy with a tribute to the things he accomplished and the many lives he touched.

At the end of the film, Disney Channel included a two-minute tribute to Cameron. Pulled together with the message, "Everything you are…Every smile, every laugh, every dance, every hug, every moment, everyone you touched…you mean everything to us," the tribute featured clips from various points throughout Cameron's life, from his days as a child on Jessie to BTS moments with his Descendants 3 costars. Other heartfelt clips included Cameron joking around with his Disney family, making Michelle Obama laugh on Jessie, and showing off his out-of-this-world dance skills.

The video montage ended with advice to viewers on how to cope with loss. "No one deals with grief the same way," the graphic reads, reminding us that it's normal to feel a mix of emotions. "You'll feel better with hugs, support, hope, time."

Fans quickly took to social media to also share their love for Cameron. "That tribute to Cameron Boyce was so beautiful. It really showed who he was and what an impact he left on people," wrote one fan while another tweeted, "Just finished watching #Descendants3 & I can’t stop crying my eyes out. 😢 The tribute at the beginning/end just shattered my heart in a million pieces. 💔."

Descendants stars Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart and Sofia Carson also shared a message to Cameron prior to the film's debut. Dove posted a screenshot of their group chat with Cam where they all texted him "I love you so much" minutes before the first scene aired. The actors also honored their late friend with additional social media tributes throughout the night. "Our Cam," Sofia wrote. "Who is looking down upon us today, dancing like only he knew how, laughing like only he (in the whole world) could make us laugh, and smiling as if every day was heaven on earth."

There's no denying the impact that Cameron had — and continues to have — on the Disney community. He was truly an inspiration and an icon, and his legacy will live on for decades to come.
