Disney Channel Cancels Descendants 3 Red Carpet, and Will Dedicate the Telecast to Cameron Boyce

The Walt Disney Company will also be making a donation to the Thirst Project.

Actor Cameron Boyce will soon be honored by Disney in a very touching way that highlights his legacy as an actor and preserves his memory.

Cameron had been a working actor since he was a child, rising to fame on Disney Channel shows such as Jessie, Austin & Ally, and most notably, in the movie franchise The Descendants. Cameron's passing happened just weeks before the premiere of Descendants 3, slated for August 2. Per a new report from Variety, Disney has now canceled the Descendants 3 red carpet out of respect for Cameron's family and his memory. Disney has also gotten permission from Cameron's family to dedicate the Descendants 3 telecast in Cameron's memory. A statement from Disney explained how they arrived at this decision:

*"We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents onscreen but we are canceling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 (scheduled for July 22) and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed. With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of ‘Descendants 3’ in Cameron Boyce’s memory."

Celebrities who were close to Cameron, including Dove Cameron, Skai Jackson, and Michelle Obama, have shared their condolences on social media. Fans of Cameron's have been just as generous and loving as they remember him, with many thanking Cameron for brightening their childhoods through his work in film and television.

The actor's untimely death, at age 20, on Sunday, July 7, has been met with an outpouring of love and support for his surviving family members. According to a statement from a family spokesperson, Cameron "passed away in his sleep due to a seizure, which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated."

A few days after Cameron's passing, his father, Victor Boyce, shared a photo of his son on Instagram that had been taken the day before his sudden death. Victor thanked all of those who had shared their condolences: "The outpouring of love and support our family continues to receive is so beautiful and appreciated. Thank you all for helping us through our worst possible situation."
